The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Great Plains Modules and Upgrading Questions

Asked by mouseware in ERP Software

Tags: , ,

      Greetings,

Great Plains: 8.00g44
Dexterity: 8.00m079
SmartList: 8.00.44
Database: SQL Server
System: Windows 2003 Server
ODBC Driver Manager: 03.52.0000
ODBC Driver: 03.86.1830
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 – 8.00.760

We have no developers in house, nor anyone who knows anything about Great
Plains, and all work on the system is contracted out to consultants and such.
We are trying to plan for an upgrade and we have no idea what modules are
installed and what impact upgrading will have on these modules. The company
we outsourced for the development kept no detailed records and is unable to
give us a list of performed work.

What I’m looking for is a way we can inventory all modules and versions to
tell what problems we may have with upgrading Great Plains and what modules
may stop working when upgrading.

I’m no Great Plains expert, and honestly I’ve never clicked around inside
the application. What I did find when going to the help menu was a listing of
products and modules, but no version information.

My questions/concerns are as follows:

1.) Is there a way we can identify what changes were made in GP from the
default configuration/installation?
2.) Is there a way we can identify what modules and versions are installed?
3.) How concerned should I be with the upgrade and modules versions?
4.) How complicated is the upgrade if you cannot identify what changes were
made in the GP application?
5.) Lastly, I’ve seen quite a few classes/courses on GP, but I haven’t
really seen too many GP courses to learn the product from an administrators
point of view. Any suggestions or recommendations on classes?

Thank you,
