Hi,
1. You can set the output of a JDEdwards report to be CSV.
2. Depending on the version you can export to XML which afterwards you would be able to import into any database.

I would like to use an external tool to extract data and store it a csv or another database. I'm not looking for report generation.

What platform is JDE on in your environment?  I'm assuming that since you're having trouble connecting to it, that it's on an AS/400.

If it's on an AS/400 (iSeries) then you can just connect via ODBC or OLEDB and do what you need via SQL Server, MS Access, Excel, etc.

The native data providers are included in iSeries Access or the Universal DB2 disks.  You can also get free ones from Microsoft for SQL Server Enterprise Edition 2008 or for Standard 2005, I think.

You can also FTP and just get the data or use a JDBC driver and connect via java.

There are lot of good data connect drivers out there, but none that are free except for Microsoft's, that I know of.  However, if you have Client Access (iSeries Access), etc.  The ODBC drivers are included there and can do an advanced install and select to install only the ODBC data connection drivers.  Most AS/400's have the iSeries Access disks loaded on the NTFS file share on the 400.  just do a //iSeriesName  to navigate Windows Explorer to the iSeries.  (if the NTFS file system is not turned on on the iSeries, have someone start the TCP job to turn it on.)

Hope that helps send you in the right direction.

The only other thing you'll have to deal with is converting CCSID and also converting dates from JDE's julian format to gregorian.  I have a number of SQL statements and functions to help with that, if you need them.

Let me know if you need more help.

Currently, we are waiting for our customer to get back to us on the complete requirement of data extraction. I will update the forum on the progress. So till then please, do not delete this question as it would be unfair to the supporting community / experts.

Thanks.
