checking hard drive integrity

Is there a good application capable of checking a hard drive's integrity?

Something capable of doing some stress testing would be ideal.

SiSoft Sandra good for this perhaps? Or should I be looking at a drive utility from the actual manufacturer?

    I would place it in the hardware section. By the way, for hard drive testing, I use Norton Disk Doctor.
