As an SAP FI consultant who was a programmer before, let me tell you it's not easy.
Functional consulting is an entirely different ballgame as compared to writing code.
I'd suggest you move into industry, and gather expertise in the domain, and not the IT part of it. It's tough but something you'll have to do yourself.

You need have job account expertise
if not there is no way to jump directly to SAP FICO nobody want junior with no experience
I have the same intention as you even do a SAP academy ( 20 day of intensive formation in FI in SAP education center ) because i am freelance
and Society of head hunter say that companies want profiles with job background even if you have no experience specially if you choose functionnal aspect of SAP like FI-CO
If you choose technical like ABAP developper maybe wou can put a foot in the domain and after some years of experience you maybe could swap to functionnal aspect
I hope that help you
Regards
I don't want to be negative just realist about the world crisis situation ( even SAP cut jobs and say now there are enought SAP consultant to support clients demand )
I document myself about SAP more than 1 year on how to enter it with different training or opportunities
You can look on monster and other site you see they want profils with experience more than 3/5 years in average
