Asked by: ccosmyn

Hello posters

i have a situation on an Ubuntu 9.04 workstation running Java SAP GUI for Linux 7.10 rev 8. I am unable to print any documents. I have a few network printers but none is printing from SAP. I haven't done any settings other than install SAP GUI. Is there anyone that encountered this situation and could provide a solution?

Hi Cosmin,

to which printer do you print in SAP? Is your printer configured in transaction spad? Does SAP show errors? What about the status of your spool entries (Menu:System -> own spool entries)

Best regards
gnurl

Hello

i don't have acces to the SAP server, it is located in a different location with other administrator. I can't tell much about spad. What i have in my location is a lan with workstations that communicate with the SAP server through VPN. Attached to lan are also network printers to wich workstations are printing. All workstations are printing to local network printers, but because they have the windows SAP client installed it's not a problem to print. In the print menu there is GSBLOCAL that has the list of printers. Only the ubuntu workstations are using Java SAP. Attached are the files with errors of the printing.

Hi,

could you try a double click on gsblocal in the corresponding field of you first screen shot? I could imagine, that this printer is configured as a windows printer which is not supported by linux. ...

An other problem could be the ZCIE_58_225 format..

Please try to print an other page maybe system -> own spool entries with a SAP format..

best regards
gnurl

by double-click-ing on the GSBLOCAL field i get an information window saying Cannot read list of fronted printers. For the formats, i have the options as in the image attached.
The printer is working under linux in other applications, it might be that Java SAP is not recognize it.

You do not have the permission to display printer details ...

Please try to print with X_65_132.

by: ccosmynPosted on 2009-06-17 at 07:28:09ID: 24648588

Nope, it's not printing. The same message appears a few times: "cannot read list of fronted printers."

by: gnurlPosted on 2009-06-18 at 00:07:42ID: 24655062

This message has to do with missing permissions in SAP.
It is not related to the printing problem...

That's good... or bad, i see in the Java SAP Preferences on Printing section that the printers installed are visible. All errors have more or less lines shown in the job number 59045.

There is only the english language installed on ubuntu. When i login to SAP i have the option of selecting the language, usuallt i pick romanian, my native language then all menus are displayed in romanian.
Regarding this i've done the following: logged in SAP env selecting english to display menus. PRinted one page, selecting: graphical and raw options. also, no special characters are displayed. Still no output on the printer.
I have noticed something different indeed about the characters, there is one type of error when i printed in romanian interface and another error when i print in english. You can see from the attached file that i don't have a log displayed in today's printing. You have a zip file containing an avi file (rename it), with the movie print screen of the errors.
The capture i've made in windows, i don't have a screen capture on ubuntu, but the errors are the same and the print jobs were created from ubuntu.

Regards,
Cosmin C.
