Best Practice for SAP on a SAN

Asked by Nirmit79 in Storage Technology, SAP ERP, SAP SCM

Tags: HP EVA SAN, SAP R3PRD

Currently, we have SAP R3PRD Version 4.5 running on SQL and its sitting on HP EVA 3000.  Now we are in the process upgrading our SAN to HP EVA 4400. My goal is to create 3 pools (Diskgroups) in the new EVA.

Disk Group 1: 5TB for SAP
Disk Group 2: 1.5 TB for Data (Possible File Server)
Disk Group 3: 500 Gb for VMWARE

Do you think Having multiple Disk Groups for multiple Role Affect SAP Performance? I was told by someone that SAP recommends keeping EVA to itself and not have any other Data  or application on the SAN.  Can you please suggest if it could  be done without affecting the performance?

I appreciate your help.

Thank You
