Browse All TopicsI have been given the assignment of administering SQL Server in my company (new job). I have been a SQL Server DBA for many years, and I am familiar with the various flavors of backups and the various backup strategies.
We're using SS2000 as the backend to a MAXIMO 5.2 system. One of the first things I noticed is how huge the tranlog on the MAXIMO database is. The reason it's grown so much is that the former DBA wasn't doing tranlog backups, so the log wasn't getting truncated on checkpoints.
This is more of a MAXIMO question than it is a SQL Server question. I know next to nothing about MAXIMO. Is MAXIMO going to care if I institute a more conventional backup plan for SS, i.e. Full Backups, Differential Backups, and Tranlog Backups? When the log gets truncated, is MAXIMO going to blow up?
MAXIMO documentation is surprisingly difficult to come by. I hope there's someone out there who can help.

No Maximo will not blow up. As you stated your previous DBA wasn't doing his job. So definately institute a backup stategy ASAP.
