Hello nsappir,

Uninstall the old Flash player
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157

Install the latest Flash plugin for your operating system
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/flash.html

1. If no joy, an addon may be interfering with IE. Disable Addons.  Go to Tools > Add-on Manager, and uncheck the addons.

If you cannot open IE, start IE without addons.  Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons).

2. Reset IE settings.  Go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.  Click on "Reset" button. Click OK. Close all browsers. Reboot the computer.

3. Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet Explorer. Temporarily disable antivirus and other security programs, firewall, toolbars such as Google and Yahoo, and desktop programs such as MSN and Google.

4. If using Windows XP, uninstall and reinstall IE7. Make sure you have the latest updates.

5. Create a new user account in Windows.

Hope this helps!

nsappir--Several people report the problem among which

On the other hand lots of people do not have the problem.
The only solution for those that do, that I have seen is to use Firefox as your browser.  This may not suit you.
It will be interesting to see if disabling add-ons is the answer.

I've done almost all the above mentioned before asking for help.

It will be very painfull to create a new account because the user is heavy with tweaks and definitions.

Firefox is not relevant for this client.

The version of flash that runs on that computer is the newest.

Did you uninstall Flash from the Adobe website?

No is that crutial?

(attached is a screenshot of  the event as recorded by the system)

The latter versions of Flash require uninstall from Adobe website.  Follow the link that I posted above.

nsappir--Did you click on the go.microsoft.com link in the error message?
Look into Event Viewer (Start|Administrative Tools|Event Viewer). Click on "System" in the left panel. Do you see RedBall error icon(s) timestamped when the problem occurred?   If so, click on the RedBall. The first message will have some data on what the problem is, but usually it is not too easy to understand. Click the blue go.microsoft.com link.  Send a report to Microsoft.  Another window should open (though it may take some time) which may offer some more understandable info and maybe even a solution.

This is the result after doing all the above

by: jcimarronPosted on 2008-12-16 at 17:26:05ID: 23190025

nsappir--war1 has earlier explained how to disable all add-ons.  You can disable just the one that is causing problems by clicking IE|Tools|Manage Add-Ons|Enable or Disable Add-Ons.
FWIW--I have Flash v 10 but do not show flash10a.ocx in any of the Add-Ons lists.
And that error message you post is not an Event Viewer error message.

by: nsappirPosted on 2008-12-16 at 20:38:05ID: 23190746

I know how to disable add-ons, but IE with no Flash is not much fun, is it?

The screenshot a attached was sent to e by the client.

I'm attaching again the application event log (renamed to .txt)

by: jcimarronPosted on 2008-12-17 at 09:54:17ID: 23196000

nsappir--Regrets, that event viewer log is almost unreadable.
"no Flash is not much fun, is it?"  Before you start worrying about that, do you in fact find flash10a.ocx  in the lists of add-ons?  If you do, disable it and see what happens.  (You can always re-enable.)  I am not convinced that flash10a.ocx is an add-on, or at least it should not be.  Remember this does not affect the flash10a.ocx file in Program Files.
If disabling flash10a.ocx (or you cannot find it) does not help, disable ALL Add-Ons per war1's suggestion.  Then see what happens.  At least that will tell us whether an "add-on" is really the problem.
FWIW--Many people report the problem
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=15&catid=194&threadid=1399850&enterthread=y
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-38,GGLG:en&q=flash10a%2eocx+
As usual, posting on an Adobe Forum gets few results.

Gentlemen, if I might submit a word. I have been fighting something very similar and have discovered the following so far. Before I found this string, I had just gone through the add-on elimination testing and did isolate the Adobe addon. The symptom was repeatable everytime by putting in a bad url. The browser would freeze trying to display the Explorer can't find the page message. Disabling that one addon cured it. Thank you for the tips on the latest version and the site uninstall, I am headed there now. BTW, this also happens in IE8 RC1.

by: jcimarronPosted on 2009-02-13 at 12:32:52ID: 23637030

nsappir--In one of my posts above "FWIW--I have Flash v 10 but do not show flash10a.ocx in any of the Add-Ons lists."
That is incorrect.  I find flash10a.ocx  in the "Add-ons that run without requiring permission" list when I open IE Tools|Manage Add-ons|Enable or Disable Add-ons.  So it would be possible to Disable flash10a.ocx to see if that ActiveX control causes the problem.
