try to ping the server. it could be due to slow network connection or a firewall issue. if everything is ok from network side, then check tnsping side

I am using oracle 10g on vista.. suddenly i started facing difficulty in login in using the host name orcl. I'm getting the error ORA-12170 TNS Connect timeout occurred. But i could login successfully without typing in the host name...
please help me out..

1 Try to use tnsping to check network connectivity. MEOUT" value to a larger value in sqlnet.ora, especially when u are connecting through database link.
2. Please check if the oracle instance is running. You may try to telnet to the oracle server port 1521 (or your defined port).
3. If you are inside a firewall, please check if the port 1521 (or your defined port) on the oracle server is open for you to access.
