Question

How to adjust the daylight saving time change on TimeQPlus Biometric?

Asked by: michies03

Hello There,

I need help on how to adjust the daylight saving time on TimeQPlus Biometric.  My server DST was automatically updated itself. I tried to reboot my server and restarted arxservice, and configured the time on terminal, but the problem still persists.   I never had this kind of problem with the daylight saving change before, except this time.  I followed the instructions that Acroprint posted on their website, but it did not help at all.  I attempted to contact their technical support, but they will charge me for the support.

Much appreciate for your urgent response.

Regards,
Mich

You looked at the below article right?

http://www.acroprint.com/acroprintstore/dst/tqpbio.html

It seems that you the terminal must be in communication with the Attendance Rx software. It states this in the above article. It also says that you needed to leave your system on over the weekend while the Daylight Savings Time change occurred. I am not sure if you left it on over the weekend though.

Thanks Sulliman24!
Yes, I did read that article from Acroprint, but the problem still persists.  My server system was always turn  on .

Personally, I have never used this product before but I have been doing some research to understand how it works. Is it possible to walk right up to this time clock and go through the options? Surely there must be a time setting somewhere in the options if you have admin access. That is unless you are controlling it from the server.

by: michies03Posted on 2009-03-09 at 14:07:21ID: 23840890

I did try to adjust the time on the terminal, and it displayed the correct time for 10 minutes and it went back to an old time.

I am just about out of ideas, but I will ask this. Is your computer system time at the appropriate time and adjusted for DST? After reading that support article again it seems that the Attendance RX software relies on your system time.

"The terminal time and display will be updated at the next polling cycle after the operating system update has occurred."

Has the above quoted statement occurred yet?

Like I mentioned before, the server updated the daylight saving time by itself. Yes, I am aware that the Attendance Rx software relies on the server system time, but what I don't understand that why the time is not automatic updated to terminal.  The server time system seems correct.  I just checked the event viewer on my server, and I noticed the w32time error.  You can look at it, and please advise.

I just realized you never told me what server you are using. I found another article with a possible fix that refers to the Event ID 29 specifically, but it is for Windows Server 2003.

http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/85534/jsi-tip-10315-your-receive-multiple-event-id-29-errors-on-a-mscs-microsoft-cluster-service-cluster-that-is-running-windows-server-2003.html

Event Type: Error
Event Source: W32Time
Event ID: 29
Description: The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 15 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

To workaround this behavior, make sure that the Windows Time service is working in NTP (Network Time Protocol) mode:

1. Open a CMD.exe window on the PDC emulator.

2. Type the following commands and pressing Enter after each line:

net stop W32Time
REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters /V Type /T REG_SZ /F /D "NTP"
net start W32Time

I thought so, but I just wanted to make sure. Did any of the support articles/suggestions help fix the problem, or have you not tried them yet?

We are having the exact same issue with these clocks in two different facilities. I believe that it is an issue with there POS (not point of sale :)  software . I went to there website and sent an e-mail to there technical support and hope to here something someday. I suggest you do the same thing, so maybe that they think that there might be an issue.

AcroPrint just posted this on there website

Acroprint TimeQplus Version 2 is experiencing a problem with the Daylight Savings Time change. Our our technicians are working to identify and correct this problem. As a work-around we suggest you follow these steps:

    * Disable (uncheck) the option to Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes.
    * Reset your computer (PC) clock to the current time.
    * Go to the TimeQplus screen in your Attendance Rx Administrator and press the Poll button.

This should set the TQ100 terminals to the correct date.

We apologize for the inconvenience and we will keep working to resolve this issue. Please check back regularly at our website for updates.

The above workaround fixes the problem for now.

If you are using the net time command in your logon.bat to sync time on the server and workstation, you might want to pull it out for now. It will reset the daylight saving time flag on the local clock when you log back in and send the timeclock goofy again.

Thanks ITMike61 and Sulliman24 for your information.  Finally, the problem has been fixed.

by: michies03Posted on 2009-03-10 at 15:13:22ID: 23852098

Hi ITMike61,

you were right, I just noticed that my server time moved back 1 hr.  It seemed like the problem is not fixed.  How do I find out if my server is using the net time command in the logon.bat for sync the time?

by: ITMike61Posted on 2009-03-11 at 06:55:56ID: 23857196

There are also other issues with this 'Fix'. It's not just a net time issue, even if net time isn't used the server will reset the time at login/logout . When I came into work this morning, I had a bunch of users who couldn't login because of a time difference between the server and clients because of the time issues I had yesterday. What I think I'm going to do today,  is at this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 I am going to set it to use the internal clock and set daylight saving time off on the server, right now I have it using one of the external servers. What we really need is a fix for the piece of crap time clock software.

by: michies03Posted on 2009-03-11 at 09:29:03ID: 23859189

Thank you for the information.  I am going to try to set it to use the internal clock, and will see if this problem is fixed.  I agreed with you about that piece of a junk time clock.  It was already 4 days, and they still don't have any patch for the time clock.  If you have any good information how to fix this problem, please let me know.  I'd appreciated your help.
