Oracle 8 Shutdown and Startup taking a long time

I have recently noticed the "startup" and "shutdown immediate/abort" command are taking a whole lot longer. It went from 10 seconds to 7 minutes for all environments. I checked everything on my HPUX server and everything seems to functioning ok. I have about 8 oracle databases that on this server and all of them have this seem lag.
Any ideas to what can be causing this problem.
