I have these .db and .log files from a user. The files are from a SQL Anywhere version 5.0
I am trying to restore it on SQL Anywhere version 9.0
Getting error like 'unable to open the transaction.log', 'not a valid database file'
Help plese..

Thanks leon...I did look at the instructions, but it does not mention anything about how to restore a database file .db done on version 5.0 SQL Anywhere onto a version 9.0 SQL Anywhere. I have the version 9.0 and the files from version 5.0
The instructions seems like relating to version 5.0 and how to upgrade it to version 9.0 and still have the version 5.0 stuff working.

I already tried opening the server 'imsdb' using the dbeng9.exe, but it says 'unable to open the transaction log file'. So, I created a new blank database using version 9.0 SQL Central with the same name as 'imsdb'. This creates the .db and the .log files. I then replaced these two new files with the original files I got from the user which I am trying to restore. The server at this point starts fine and is at a point where it says 'Now accepting requests'.
But when I go into SQL Central and try to connect to that server, thats when it tells me that the files I have is from older version 5.0 and I need to unload and reload the file. And when I click 'yes' to do the upload of the file, it gives me some 'Sybase internal error thing'. I can paste the whole error if you would like.

URGENT! Any help would be appreciated.
I am trying to restore the files .DB and .LOG obtained from version 5.0 of SQL Anywhere onto version 9.0.1 SQL Anywhere. Running into issues while trying to connect to the running server (with old files) in the SQL Center. It is giving me some internal error telling me to report to Sybase.
Has anyone encountered this? Any tips would be helpful. Thanks

The unload-dbinit-reload-via-d
Version 9 dbinit.exe guarantees that both the file format and the
system catalog are the very best they can be. Don't fiddle with
dbupgrad.exe; IMO it should be dropped from the product :)
Here is the step-by-step process that I recommend; FWIW you should use
Version 9 executables for all the steps here, even though you're
dealing with an old .DB file in the earlier steps:
1. Disconnect all other users from the old database.
2. Unload the old database with dbunload.exe.
3. Stop the old database.
4. Move the old database file and transaction log somewhere else.
5. Create a new database file with dbinit.exe.
6. Start the new database.
7. Increase the size of the new database file with ALTER DBSPACE
in ISQL.
8. Defragment the hard drive.
9. Examine and edit the reload.sql file if necessary.
10. Load the new database by running reload.sql via ISQL.
11. Check to make sure everything's OK.
12. Make the new database available.
