grant select on all tables

Obviously a newbie.  Is there a way to grant select on all tables without having to run the grant statement for each table?  I need to grand a user select access on all the tables in a database.  Thanks.

You can easily generate a script that does that does that; although it does issue
a GRANT against each table, you don't have to go to the effort of typing each command...

select "grant select on " + name + " to joeuser " from sysobjects where type = 'U'
go

Note: if you will be doing this for many users, it may be easier to create a role, assign the permissions to the role, then grant the role to the users.  Then if you add a new table, you only have to grant the permission once to the role.
