The only issue with RPC between ASE 12.5 and ASE 15 that we run into was use of new datatypes introduced in ASE 15 (eg. bigint).

There is a need to install a Sybase database in version 12.5
onto a server running Sybase version 15. Would you know if
this would cause any uncertainties or even problems?
In addition, the database version 15 is arranged to make
Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) to a database under version in
12.5 on a different server. Would this be acceptable? Any
issues you are aware?
I thank you sincerely for any thoughts and replies.

The clean way to do this is to install into two completely different directories, and use two different operating system user accounts. That way the environments are fully separated, each points to the correct files, and each picks up the correct environment variables.
You can make it work using just one account, but you need to be clever with absolutely guaranteeing each environment gets the correct environment settings before launching. ie. source the correct SYBASE.sh file within each RUN_SERVER file, and overwrite the previous values of each variable. This can get messy - it's much easier to just use two different O/S logins.
Separate directories is mandatory, though.
No issues with the RPCs, they won't care about the mixed versions.
