Need help with Access images

I am in desperate need for some help on this issue.  I've spent days trying to solve this puzzle and have made no progress.

Prior to installing Windows XP SP2, I was able to include images in my forms and reports where the source was a TIFF file.  Now, after installing SP2, I can no longer do this.  It seems as though TIFF images are not recognized as graphics.  I am able to include TIFF images in my Word documents and Excel worksheets, but not my Access forms or reports.

So far I have downloaded and installed the Office File Converter Pack, but it looks like the TIFF converter was not included in that pack.  I tried to go into Office setup and specify to include the TIFF filter, but that option is not available.

Can someone please help me to get TIFF images working again in my forms and reports!!  Thanks so much.

Hmm, AFAIK, all Office programs use the same filters - is the TIFF option just not available when you go to insert an image into Access?
I know Tiif's can contain viruses (i think ), and maybe MS in all the "wisdom" have decide to add some security of some sort with these in SP2.

Suggestion, get rid of SP2!

Maybe post a link Q in the Win XP TA (20 pointer), they may know more about this..

I agree with flavo - chalk another one down on my list of reasons why not to install SP2....if MS made their stuff secure in the first place, we wouldn't have these problems...!

(unless there's a way to disable the "security feature" that is not allowing TIFFs to work)

Shane, when I drag to create the image area in the form, as soon as i release the mouse, it prompts me for the path to the linked image.  I browse to a folder containing only TIFF files, but they are not listed.  Under 'Files of Type' the program specifies 'Graphics Files' and I guess because it doesn't realize that TIFF files are images, it doesn't display the files.  When I change the 'Files of Type' to 'All Files', then it shows the TIFF files, but if I try to pick one of those files, the dialogue box simply closes and won't accept the path to the TIFF file as a valid image.

Flavo - I suppose I could get rid of SP2, but that seems a bit drastic.  Also, another machine that has SP2 installed has no problem with the TIFF files at all.  Therefore, I'm thinking that SP2 may not be the problem.
Have you tried doing an Office Repair/Reinstall? This should include the filter if it was originally installed.
Yes, I've tried the repair/reinstall.  When I try to specify the specific graphics filters to repair/reinstall, TIFF is not one of them.  I tried changing one or two components to force a repair, but that had no effect on my problem.
I've posted a Q on the WIN XP TA to see whether it is advisable/possible to uninstall SP2.  Let's see what they have to say over there!
Unfortunately, it sounds like case of total Office removal and reinstall, but I'm not familiar with the procedure to fully uninstall Office 2003 :(
I think I'm going to try the following steps in this order:

1.  Try installing Paint Shop Pro (to get an OLE Image Server installed) and see what effect that has.  I am trying this based on the following comment:

"For Access to be able to store or display any images, it relies on having a valid OLE Image Server installed on the local machine. So, if you have a product such as Photo Editor or Paint Shop Pro installed, your limitation is based on what is available in the Image application that you are using by way of the operating system's file association for a specific image type."

2.  If #1 does not work, I will then try to uninstall SP2.

3.  Following that, I'll try a complete removal and reinstall of Office.

I hope one of these works!
here is something else you might try
open a folder that has a tiff
double click on a tiff image and see what application open the file
if no program open the file or the wrong program opens the file the you can open a folder then tools then folder option then click on the registered file type and chance tiif back to a image file extension
Well, I installed Paint Shop Pro, which uses TIFF files fine, but this had no effect on Access.

I also uninstalled Win XP SP2 (took 1 hr!) and this hasn't made a difference either.  I guess the next step is to uninstall Office XP and then reinstall.

This is crazy that it is taking this long to fix this silly problem.

Excalibur - I've tried that option of changing the file type associations and that hasn't made a difference.  I have changed from Microsoft Document Imaging, Windows File and Picture Viewer, etc. and nothing has made a difference.
Hi Daniel,

Not real sure what is happening there, but I have WinXP SP2 installed and have no problem embedding Tag Image Files into an Access 2000 form, the option to filter on TIFF's is available in the filter dialogue 'Files of Type'
So I dont think it is an SP2 issue, it is most likely a graphic filters and converters registry glitch.

Suggest you try modifying your office installation

Try removing Converters and Filters
  - Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > MS Office > Converters and Filters > NOT AVAILABLE

Then reinstall them:
  - Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > MS Office > Converters and Filters > RUN ALL FROM MY COMPUTER

Hope this helps
