New Set Up Of SQL Server 7.0

Recently, I set up network with new sql server 7.0 in my Window 2000 server and one Window 2000 Professional.
I am ready to add new database to sql and now want to test ODBC database connection on window 2000 Professional.
What kind of set up I should prepare for SQL Server.

You need to install the client connectivity from SQL Server, that's all.
Obviously, you ccould an also install the client tools, so you have Query Analyser and Enterprise Manager for managing the database that is located on the server...

you need to go to the odbc administrator
and setup a user dsn

steps would be:
   1.add new
2.pick sql server on the list
3.provide the name of the connection
you want for it.  this is the name
you'll be using in your program that
connects to the database via odbc
also provide the correct server name
otherwise it won't be able to find it.
you need to provide a valid login id
and password that was already setup in
     sql server.
   4. pick how you want the server to
      authenticate the login.  i normally
      use sql server authentication.
      click client configuration and pick
      what protocol your using..like tcp/ip
   5. just follow through...at the end
you can actually test the connection if
      it work.

hope this helps.

I encountered Connection Failed.
Should I need to set any username and password to particular database?

first off, try to ping your server
from that workstation.  just want to
make sure that your workstation can
see the server.

as for the dsn setup...on the second
screen where you have a check box that
says, Connect to SQL Server to obtain.....
enter a valid SQL Server user id and password.
make sure that this user id and password is
a valid login account in your SQL Server.

if you can give me the error message displayed
below that connection failed error i could
help you figure out what is wrong.

Ok, I got it.  Now, here is the point we are at.  I will ask Netminder to close all your questions in the next 72 hours.  I have sat here at my PC for a while and considered all posts related in all your questions.  It appears you are abusing the site and that will not be tolerated.  You can contact me at Computer101@Experts-exchange.com to resolve this, but the bottom line is, if your questions are not resolved, Netminder will handle them.  I will afford you this opportunity to excel here at the site, step up to the plate and hopefully make a change in your question activity.
