I'm presuming you have some sort of boundary values as if you had a table with only 2 values, would you want everything up to and beyond infinity???

yes sorry i forgot it, there are boundaries: values must range between 1 and the highest value in the column. simply, i developed an app to administer helpdesk calls and everytime i add a call a new line is added with a number that is the highest number in the column + 1. due to a problem in early versions of the software, to avoid duplicates some numbers are not used and now i need to know which are those numbers.
