Cannot start Oracle Instance after reboot system
Where i create a database in our UAT server, the Oracle instance (service) started successfully after the database was created, however, when i restart the server, the service wont able to starting again.

The error message is like: Cannot start Oracle Instance

This make me frustrated when i need to delete the service, create new database and use IMP function to dump in previous data back to server, too bad right? :(

Oracle version: 8.1.7
Processor: P4 2.4GHz
OS: Win2k Server Service Pack 4

Any idea?? thks

In some cases you need to delete/recreate the Oracle service. However, do dont need to delete and recreate the database

What is a "UAT" server?  Is other software installed and running on that server also, or is just the operating system and Oracle?

Which Windows account is the Oracle service set to start with?  It is normally "Local system", but you can change this if necessary.  If you are not sure, choose: Start, Settings, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, then right-click on the Oracle service for your SID, choose Properties, and go to the Logon tab.

Hi baonguyen1,

Almost perfect ;) However, what's the possible of causing Oracle service not running? I follow the step to create a database, then i also manually start the Oracle service from Server Console (Windows), the Oracle service wont run.

How do i delete/recreate the Oracle service manually? I tried:

oradim -delete -sid <sid>

is this the correct command?

Also, i facing problem of "protocol adapter" error when i trying to execute "connect / as sysdba " statement, any reason why?

Hi markgeer,

"UAT" stands for User Acceptance Test, basically it mean the server is a Test Server. The server did runs other applications, including pcAnywhere, etc. Is that possible this cause by the Windows Service setting, instead of Oracle Service (SID) Setting?

Oracle is an object-relational database management system. It supports a large number of languages and application development frameworks. Its primary languages are SQL, PL/SQL and Java, but it also includes support for C and C++. Oracle also has its own enterprise modules and application server software.
