Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 over Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 2

I have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP 2 on my server and want to upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP 3. I have tried doing it several times through Windows Update and it hasn't worked. I have also tried manually downloading the update and installing it manually. That seemed to work, but I got a long list of components that didn't install (see Code). I got some support from Microsoft, but I got the impression the guy didn't really know what he was talking about.

I have 2 questions:

1. How can I tell for certain if SP3 has already been installed? The guy from Microsoft told me that if Windows Update is saying I still need the update, it has not been installed. I'm not sure if that's true or not. Is there any other way to tell?

2. In the event that SP3 has not been installed, how safe would it be to download the entire SP3 program and install it over the SP2 program? Would I be likely to screw up my settings etc. and make my website unusable?
