Data Recovery After Boot Sector Corruption
Hi,
I am trying to help a friend that allowed a boot sector (virus) write. I need a Diagnostic / Program
to get into a HD. That is, a prog. that will ignore the boot sector (if possible) and let me look at
the data on the HD so that I can move it to a working HD. I'm open to other methods also.
Thanks, Rich

2nd, usually, if no damage beyond first sector, an
fDisk /MBR
from a known good boot diskette will restore it properly, to point where you can move around system.
3rd, for simple file recovery, just make this disk #2 on another system. Read and backup as desired. This covers situations such as fat damage. When done getting files, rebuild completely to wipe all traces of anything 'bad'.
4th do not use any A/V 'undo' or 'restore' this area. They do not handle multiple virus attacks, and can break by false assumption
