Ricoh photocopier/printer problem

Hi,

Problem:
We are guessing that a rouge printer driver is consuming all the CPU resource on the print server and workstations. It gradually builds over a day or so when the cpu reaches 100% activity when the server should be almost idle. Most of the CPU gets used by spoolsv.exe. Restarting the print spooler service markedly reduces the cpu usage, although not completely.

We can not remove this printer. The application is listed as not responding in task manager.

Background:
We have a lan with around 50 PC's.

One Windows 2003 Server (also a Domain controller) does file & print sharing & Sharepoint.

Workstations are Windows 2000 pro and Windows XP pro.

We are rolling out a few Windows XP x64.

My problem's seem to have begun when I tried to add the Windows XP x64 drivers. Most of printers - HP 4, 5 & 6's are okay. But the Ricoh photocopier/scanner/printer (Ricoh Aficio 2022) has caused problems. The Ricoh printer drivers aren't windows certified. But we have been running the x86 Windows 2000/xp for the past year with no issues.

But now ...
I can not delete the printer. (I left the printers and faxes folder deleting this printer all day yesterday on my machine and nothing.)

I can not delete the printer driver as the printer is in use.

If I delete the printer on the server, users can not delete the printer.

Other symptoms: CPU activity goes real high - the spooler service in Task Manager ends up consuming all CPU resources. Restarting the print spooler reduces this - there is still some relatively high system cpu load.

Memory does not seem to be a problem.

I've seen https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20562617/Removing-a-printer-driver-under-XP.html?query=removing+printer+driver&clearTAFilter=true on how to remove the printer driver.

Hi Carl,

I've done that.

I've picked on the driver for a HP 4si.
