How to protect the password for encrpting and decripting

Hello,

I have a program that saves important information to a file, each time the program starts it decrypts the file and stores in into memory and when it closes it encrypts the data and saves it to the same file.

Here is the problem, to encrypt and decrypt the program uses a password, now if I store that password in a constant or variable, it can easily be obtained be a entry level hacker by decompiling.

How can I protect that password?
