The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. 2008R2 DNS not working

I have just upgraded my domain controllers from 2000 and 2003 to 2008R2. I posted a question the other day and got some great advice but I am stumped. I now have two 2008R2 domain controllers with DNS on both of them. I also added a secondary DNS server that is running on a 2003 member server. THe problem is that if I try using the DNS server address of one of my 2008 servers I cannot access the internet. If I use the secondary DNS server that is on the 2003 server everything works.

These are the steps I took for the upgrade.
1- Installed 2008R2 DC with DNS
2- Copied FSMO and other roles to new server.
3- Installed second 2008R2 server.
4- Demoted my 2000 DC
5- I was a little worried so I installed DNS on a 2003 member server as a secondary DNS server.
6- Demoted 2003 DC with DNS.
7- Removed all instances of previous DNS server from DNS.
8- Removed previous DNS server from the domain and turned it off.
9- Changed the 2008R2 DNS servers IP address to match the old DNS server. Ran ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns and did a dcdiag /fix. no errors reported.
10- Time to test. I changed the primary DNS server on a workstatiuon to that of the new DNS server and could not connect to the internet. I then changed it to the Secondary DNS server that I setup and it worked like it should.
11- At this point I decided to install DNS on the other 2008R2 server. After everything synched up I tried that IP address for the DNS server and got the same result as the first one.

I'm stumpted. Can someone please give me some direction?
