I have several MP3s I'm burning onto a CD. A couple of them seem a bit too bassy and I'd like to run them through an equalizer. Are there any good freeware equalizers for MP3 or CDA files? (I'm running Win XP.)

It is similar to Nero Wave Editor but free
My personal choice here is to re-record the mp3 with less base.
To do this simply play your mp3
Open Audacity and have it ready..
Open the mp3 in your media player, open the equalizer in your media player reduce the base then when your ready record the mp3 playing back in Audacity with less base.
Audacity will record what you hear thru Stereo Mix in other words what you hear in your speakers so you can actually hear what you're recording.
then save as MP3 again but with less bass.
You can start Audacity a few secs before playing the mp3 with confidence knowing you can delete these silent bits later.
You could also drop your mp3 onto audacity>> highlight the entire audio track << drag the curser over
then use the effect to normalise make any changes
Export as mp3 again but with changes.

Like you have mentioned MP3 equalizer software, i think those are available only to play real-time audio and not to permanently store them,
for your purpose, i would recommend Nero Wave Editor that is an awesome audio editing tool that can be downloaded and installed as a trialware and could be purchased....
