My external hard drives have disappeared

I have been trying out several different mp3 players over the last several days. I would return one and try another til I found one I liked. I settled on the Sansa e200.

As i was experimenting,I noticed that my Drive letter for my built-in card readers and my 3 external hard drives were being jumbled around, i.e. F: became M:, etc.

The only problem I had with the Sansa is that it would be recognized in USB mode but the driver install for MTP mode (needed for WMP 11) failed. I tried several times.

The BIGGER problem now is that all 3 of my external hard drives have completely disappeared from my PC. I have rebooted, unplugged them, checked device manager..they aren't to be found.

I took one of the drives and the Sansa to my wife's XP PC and the both worked fine.

I am at a loss, please advise.
