I live in the UK and I'm about to move abroad for a year with work. I have been looking at the Slingbox Pro which seems a great way to access my TV sources (PVR, Media Center etc) whilst away. Whilst this is great for streaming, I wonder if there is a better solution for me in terms of more flexibility.
I'm currently thinking along the lines of software to run on my media center or other pc (either in my house or a friends house) that would give me access to a UK TV guide, be able to set programmes to record remotely and access these files from abroad (preferable in Divx format). I would want the Divx to be automated (i.e. I don't want to have to play around with files to convert to Divx or have to ask someone else to do it for me). I have looked at Beyond TV but that has a US based TV Guide.
Whilst the Slingbox could be attached to a PVR and stream my TV abroad, I think I would prefer to have the files to watch when it suits me or to be able to transfer to an iPod etc. I don't want to have to download tv programmes from illegal sources either.
Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
