Thanks Darron for the reply. I tried the first script you mentioned, but it did not change the genre. Even after playing some of the songs, Itunes did not update the genre. Will read up on the second utility and probably try it also. I appreciate your help and will let you know how it turns out.

When the user plays a song, does the genre show up then? Genre information is stored in the actual MP3 songs themselves (in the ID3 tag) and if the information is still there, iTunes will automatically refresh the information when the song is played. If the genre doesn't show up, or if you try to play the song in another MP3 player and it doesn't show up, Then the ID3 tag is missing the genre info. It seems highly unlikely that the genre info was stripped from each and every song.
s.com/win/ scripts.ph p, and that should automatically reimport the missing genre info from the mp3 files.
If you find that the information is still there in the MP3, then you can run update.js from here, http://www.everythingitune
If you discover that, indeed, there is no genre info in the mp3 file, then you can attempt to run a utility like this http://musicbrainz.org/ to restore the information.
