thanks, I wound up finding this which is freeware and worked for me good:

let me ask another question if you don't mind. I am trying to find a cheap MP3 player but that it also has time scaling or playback speed changing. I want to listen to podcasts / audio books faster than normal. I tried a sandisk and called creative about a zen stone plus and both don't offer it. these are 2 GB for 40 and 25 each so that's the price range I'd like to get.
I have a no name 256 MB unit that I don't like the controls and eats batteries, and that offers the speed change! the 2 gig isn't critical either - I'll add / delete things to get them to fit and 256 is likely enough anyway. I just want to save time listening.
thanks!
