D,
My car player DOES NOT have MP3 on it. Does that mean that there are no software packages available to burn MP3s onto a CD in such a way that a player WITHOUT MP3 CAPABILITY can play them?

Not being very music technically literate, I thought I would do something simple but cannot figure out how to do it. I've recorded numerous music CDs that are then played in my car CD player. No problem.
Then, after seeing how small MP3 files are (relative to the music CD files), I figured 50 MP3's would fit on the same CD that holds 14 music files. (You know where this is going, don't you?). The MP3 files wouldn't play and I couldn't figure out how to record them so they would.
Any ideas, or aren't there any software conversion-type applications that do this?

You need to have a CD player that can handle MP3 files - if it isn't simply playing them then my guess is that it can't. (It will usually have MP3 written on the outside if it can)
I did manage to get about a hundred MP3s onto a CD at one stage - quality wasn't great, but it was great in my car to put all my CDs together and keep my hands free to drive! I eventually got a new head deck in my car with a USB input and use a 4gb stick with hundreds of songs on it, stuck on shuffle - it's great!
