Open the MOV in Quicktime ... and use the Get Info menu Item to see what Codec was used to encode it.

I recommend that you install codec's pack (collection of many codecs for different types of video files). Probably the best codec pack on internet is K-Lite codec pack. The best one to try with is Mega release (K-Lite is also available in full, medium and lite versions).
