Question

HP zv 5380 No audio after xp reinstall

Asked by: krankas

I bought a used HP 5380 and did  a clean install of windows xp.I did not get recovery discs so all drivers were loaded from HP site. I have no audio although device manager shows everything working properly. Did  an uninstall and reinstall, still no audio. One thing I noticed on the HP site is there are no audio drivers listed for the zv 5380. I used automatic install in windows and they showed realtek ac97 when installed but did not work. I uninstalled and  went to HP again and downloaded sound drivers for ZV5000 and those showed soundmax when installed and still did not work. I do get some system sounds. This unit has an AMD  processor,Nvidia graphics and sound.
Thanks fo any help that you can offer.

I have now downloaded the drivers, thanks. Do i have to remove the  drivers I already installed before I install these?

by: souseranPosted on 2008-09-24 at 14:26:56ID: 22564205

Usually, you need both of them, and the HDA needs to be installed before the OEM drivers.

I have gone and idownloaded all the enhancements. I am now not able to remove he soundmax drivers. I inttended to remove them, install the enhancements and then reinstall the drivers. Could you explain what I am doing wrong. The audio no longer shows realtek, it shows soundmax. I did an automatic install and these are the drivers the system installed. STILL NO SOUND.

In Device Manager, what is the Device Instance Id on the soundcard?

by: krankasPosted on 2008-09-25 at 05:40:42ID: 22568390

It shows Soundmax digital audio

by: souseranPosted on 2008-09-25 at 06:09:33ID: 22568616

What is the Device Instance Id? You can get this from looking at the Device Properties on the Details tab. It will be in the following format:

PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_0111&SUBSYS_80E21043&REV_10\4&25296D99&0&18F0

Please post that string for the sound card.

Sorry. I missed this earlier.

10DE= nVidia
00DA = SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

The sound appears to be integrated. What is the model number of your unit? It should be something like PM002UA. Or, can you tell me the make and model of your motherboard? A tool like SIW, available at:

http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

Should provide the necessary manufacturer and model.

Thanks.

I did an uninstall of the drivers, downloaded and installed nforce 5.11 but still no sound.

by: souseranPosted on 2008-09-26 at 11:59:20ID: 22582599

Are you using external speakers or are the speakers built in to the device? If they're external, are they properly plugged into the sound card, rather than accidentally being plugged into the microphone, for instance?

by: krankasPosted on 2008-09-26 at 12:21:57ID: 22582817

The speakers are internal.

by: krankasPosted on 2008-09-27 at 09:20:04ID: 22587647

I finally got the audio by downloading and installing (Nvidia Nforce audio 4.62 international winxp2k whql)
from the Nvidia archives. Thanks for your time.
