Question

Sirius Internet radio player Please Help

Asked by: NFerrer

Ok my player has worked fine for a very long time and as of a few days ago it goes through the refreshing process then says "Ready" and does not work.  I searched and found a user "Merete" had my same problem and I tried to resolve it like he did and it did not work.  Sirius support is of no use everything they have told me to do does not work.  My profile works on other computer just not my primary laptop.  I run Windows VIsta and am beyond frustrated with this problem.  I cannot figure it out and nobody can help me.  I have tried 4 web browser and Yahoo's widget sirius player and nothing.  Same problem, says Ready and no volume.  Can you please give me step by step instructions that appeared to help "Merete" or give me another solution.  Thank you thank you, please help, this is the program I use the most on my computer and it just does not work anymore.  I am so frustrated.

Hi NFerrer, can you copy the link from the question you saw me participate in and post that back here
then I can take a look at it to determin what steps to offer you and how to troubleshoot this.
I'm not clear if your problem is with your profile or the player or actaul internet access as you have to log on
>> your comment refers to a profile problem.
My profile works on other computer just not my primary laptop.
here's one idea without any facts

I mixed it up you were the help not the person seeking the problem.  Like I said, I believe the problem is something on my computer that is not allowing me to play it on any browser.  According to company policy the Sirius tech support couldn't tell me to change anything on my computer.

I log in fine, my internet is fine, the problem I provided the link too above is pretty much exactly why I am experience except I did not remove it from a docking station.  Furthermore when you log into their system and gain access to the player they recently added a pop up telling us that they are going to start charging for internet listening use.  I am almost positive the problem started as soon as the pop up started if that means anything.

Afer reading the two questions there is a similarity.
Lets try and troubleshoot basics first,
you say>
My profile works on other computer just not my primary laptop.<< And this stopped working recently on the primary laptop?
Is XP installed on the desktop and Vista business on the laptop?
Did you actually run a clean install of this media player and created a new account?
Account not expired? Can you run this account on 2 different systems without having to pay an extra fee possibly?
Just to pin point it>>
Same problem, says Ready and no volume. << so you see some kind of graph indicating there is connection and playing but just no volume?
Have you checked if the master volume has by some unknown reason muted itself?
Do you have other sounds on this laptop?
Could be a Microsoft update if this started recently, have you installed the new Vista sp1?
If the sirius people  have updated there site and that server systems you may have to follow.
Vista is unlike the simpler XP for protocols and drivers.
I'm not running Vista so please use your own knowlede to navigate to control panel audio and sounds
look in the audio and make sure all the right devices are listed for all the tabs then ensure it's not muted.
Use this too

Yes stopped working on my primary laptop recently, however works on every other computer I have tried.  However, the other computers I have tried it on were running xp I believe.
I did try to reinstall WMP as this was one of sirius tech supports troubleshooting solutions and this did not resolve the problem.  They told me to download windows MP 11 and upon doing so, my computer told me that there was a newer version already installed so it would not install previous versions.
My account was verified as working fine by sirius employees and I can run my account on another computer fine.

Yes the previous linked problem sounds identical to what I am experiencing, it loads, says opening media, connecting, then Ready with nothing coming out.  All other sounds are coming from laptop fine.  There was an update a few days ago but this was after the problem occurred and I have not installed Vista sp1 to my knowledge.   Double checked all volume devices and everything is fine, sounds are coming out.

Also, when running the sirius player after about 30-40 minutes of playing and no movement on computer it will ask you to click to keep going.  This still occurs which I find odd, it's like it's still playing but when it is working properly it will say connected, and it just says Ready.  Please help

Re: Windowsn Media Player always Ready

If you rename the "Windows Media" folder at:
%appdata%\local\microsoft
, does online radio then work?

I found this solution to someone having same problem and it apparently worked, what does this mean and how do I access it?

by: NFerrerPosted on 2009-02-01 at 19:59:45ID: 23524284

Thank you so much for your help but after searching the internet for solutions I found many had the same problem and I find this solution on some random message board and it worked!!  Thank you for your time in this matter Merete.  For what its worth this was the solution:

To rename the Player networking information folder:

1. Close Windows Media Player completely.

2. Click Start, then select Run.

3. In the Run dialog box, type the following (exactly as shown):

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media

This step opens the following folder on your computer:

SystemDrive:\Documents and Settings\UserProfileName\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media

4. In this folder, rename the folder 10.0 to 10.0.bak  (Except here I typed in 11.0.bak because that is what I run)

5. Start the Player and try to stream the content again.

Give it a shot and let us know if it solves the problem.

Good luck!

ok thanks NFerrer, have you tried a system restore?
I'm not sure you have correctly worded your problem.
>>when running the sirius player after about 30-40 minutes of playing <<
so it does work for a period of time?
Did you state this to tech ?

If your system is sitting with no activity could be a Power saver settings  pops on or the system goes in hybernation?
Wireless mouse keyboard switches off?
Check through this
What are the basic hardware and software requirements for using the SIRIUS website?
http://www.sirius.com/faqs

 >>did try to reinstall WMP as this was one of sirius tech supports troubleshooting solutions and this did not resolve the problem. << Well you can't re-install WMP 11 on Vista without re-installing Vista.
Are all cookies enabled?
Can I see your events errors please/
Just wondering if you removed WMP as the default player as IE need that for the internet
go to start> all programs > default programs.......Select Windows Media player in list.....And Click Make it default
Reboot

I'd say what happens you renamed the folder
and windows re-created it giving the default permissions and credentials again.
