The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Why Windows media player does not play the video of some websites in my computer?

Asked by hellomehta in Windows Media Player, Plug Ins, General Multi-Media Software

Hi,
I am using Windows XP sp2 on my system. Its a laptop computer from Dell. The problem seems to be strange.  If I go to this news website www.thedesicentral.com/ibn.htm or some other websites like this , it will not play the video. Interesting thing is that it says "connecting" "attempting to reconnect", "playing" and then " ready" and the screen once flash and u will feel that its about to play it. but then it will just say ready and nothing would happen. Now let me tell u about the solutions I have tried for this. Formatting the harddrive and reinstalling windows xp sp2. reinstalling windows updates. creating new user account with admin rights. I can play the vcd movies fine. Reset Internet explorer 7. Used Mozilla Firefox. uninstalled IE 7 and Mozilla firefox. Checked browser plugins by going to these websites http://tinyurl.com/atvwy and http://tinyurl.com/25kahj. Interestingly these test sites are working fine on the system. disabled all startup items and non microsoft services from system configuration utility. Installed new versions of windows media player like 11. contacted isp. other people using same isp are able to play it. installed Run time environment from www.java.com.  and what not? but it seems to be working on the other computers, not on this one. I believe someone here would be able to know what the issue is and what the solution is. It can be related to codecs etc but I have given up. Do u have a suggestion?
