Windows XP Does Not Recognize Sony DV Camcorder

Asked by zorvek in Digital Cameras, Windows XP Operating System

Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV310. Windows XP SP3. When I connect the camera to the box via Firewire, Windows recognizes that a new device is attached but it can't install it. It displays the device name as 0800460101B3A2DE versus "Sony Camcorder" or something like that. I have updated my chipset drivers. It worked before I rebuilt my box with the same Windows XP SP3. Verified it is not the camcorder or the Firewire cable by successfully installing on my Vista box.

Any ideas on how to get Windows XP to work as advertised?
