if that doesnt work, try this regedit fix:
http://theonegreatx.com/2007/11/03/restore-usb-autorun-autoplay-in-vista-or-xp/
It doesn't autoplay on any other computer or just on the Vista?
tried both of your suggestions, neither worked. I had tried the first one many times before posting, and it just doesnt work.

Let me know.
Lets start again, is this computer on a domain that perhaps has autorun option disabled on a GPO or perhaps on Local Policy defined...

This is a Windows Vista Home Edition Dell PC. No domain, it is set up as a standalone machine. Looking further into the issue, here are some other things I have noticed / tried FYI:
There is a Dell Media Bay for many different types of flash cars installed in the place of one of the CD ROM Bays. There is also a Dell Photo AIO Printer 926, which has the slots for the memory cards. If I nsert the SD card into the Dell Reader on the PC, it comes up with DEll Media something or another, which is fine. If I insert it into the printer on the memory slot, it does not come up with nothing. When the PC first came, it would come come up with an automatic Microsoft Media Player, then it asked to import the pictures into the My Pictures directory, using the date as the name for the folder. This is what I am trying to get back. As far as USB drives, I dont get pompted at all when I insert them. Thanks in advance.

I still have not found a solution to this problem. I have even tried uninstalling the printer and reinstalling it hoping that it would reassociate the media drives with the autorun, with no luck. Any other ideas would be appreciated, thanks.
scanners printers cameras any dual desktop?
How many roms do you have? 2 or more?
Slaved hard drives?
My line of thinking is something has crossed it's association or if there is one faulty media it may prevent the others from functioning correctly.
Once you have the basics only, one keyboard what is it using?
one mouse, what is it using?
One master rom drive
one hard drive C drive only
Then you have a couple of choices unistalling all the USB while they are free./
run a full chkdsk to fix any inconsistancies
or in device manager open VIEW and tick to show hidden devices
check for any duplicates or problem devices.
take a look at the universal seriel bus contollers
standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller<< listed first?
then follows standard OpenHCD USB Host Contoller
and a few

Windows Vista is an operating system created by Microsoft as the successor to Windows XP. It was intended for PCs, workstations and laptops, and shares the same code base as its successor, Windows 7. New features included an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Aero, a new search component called Windows Search, redesigned networking, audio, print and display subsystems, and new multimedia tools. Vista aimed to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network, using peer-to-peer technology to simplify sharing files and media between computers and devices. Windows Vista included version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, allowing software developers to write applications without traditional Windows APIs.
