Question

Cannot copy video files from Panasonic Camcorder SDR-H60.PC

Asked by: svetoslavm

I have purchased a Panasonic Camcorder SDR-H60.PC camcoder 8 months ago.
Now I need to download files from it...

I cannot copy videos from the camera's HDD.

I have installed the VideoCam Suite v.1.0 L021 software update

Here are the specs.
http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/Hard-Disk-Drive/SD-Camcorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.SDR-H60.D#ts

Here is a list of software that panasonic has for video stuff
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/soft/index.html

Can you recommend me either a solution from Panasonic site that I can use to download/save videos from my camera and edit/create a playlist, OR an alternative software product.

P.S.: I've tried copying files from Windows Explorer but it does not work because files are saved in a *strange* format...

since you have the drivers installed for the camera you should be able to use Windows Movie Maker to import the footage (under File >> Capture Video).

Whats your OS svetoslavm,
it's important since Vista  UAC differs from Xp ( User Account Controls)
Strange icons !!!  indicates that the files are not recognised by any software onboard your system.
So I would focus on that as your prime problem.
You may need to install some codecs as well.
However keeping in mind that it is also highly posible the files are corrupted if you have not backed them up in 8 months.
You can use gspot to analyse and troubleshoot the files to determin if it is a missing codec or somehting else
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GSpot
If you have successfully installed the software is your camcorder appearing ok ?
The icon is displayed in My Computer as a new hdd drive, go there and explore the drive.
Then r/click the icons copy to your hard drive then r/click and open with VideoCam Suite.
Check the guides to make sure you have successfully installed the software, the PC must be rebooted in order to install.
After the software is installed, the unit must be connected to the PC and be correctly recognized by the
PC.
e Remove the supplied CD-ROM from your PC. After reboot.

e Before starting the installation, close any other
software applications which are running.
e Do not perform any other operations on your

Hi,

Sorry about the delay.

I am using Windows XP.

For some reason the Camcoder's HDD appears instead of Panasonic.
I couldn't using Windows Movie Maker because of that.

The mail on the Net is that Panasonic's software (Video Cam Suite) is a 'dog' -- but not so the camera. It records in MPEG-2 format, and I'm lead to believe that it records this on-the-fly MPEG-2 in MOD files (.mod).
So to get the ball rolling I would simply capture (or transfer because they are already digital) the files in a trusted software that accepts MOD files.
Download the free trial of Ulead Video Studio. Choose Capture and the software should recognise your camera and the MOD files. Then save as MPEG-2 at full resolution. Or do some editing.

Just adding, your actual camera (device) may not be listed in Ulead' drop down box under "Source" (or other software as a Panasonic).
It may simply say something like: AVC compliant Device or something similar.

For some reason the Camcoder's HDD appears instead of Panasonic.<< if I understand that
your referring to the hard drive in the Panasonic, that shoudl be right once you plug in the USB it creates a mass storage drive in my computer
open the hard drive ( mass storage device right?)
and copy out the video files to  your desktop then open them in your video editing software.
Or use Gspot to analyse them
I didnt see any references to finalising the drive before you copy off video.
Some Camcorders do require you finalise the drive to access it, and then it may give you the option to re-enable open the drive to record again onto the drive.
Could you send us a snapshot of the mass storage device ( drive in my computer) and what you see once you explore it.

svetoslavm do you get a similar image with the auto run options when you plugin the camcorder in
select Folder
