The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

What should I upgrade if I'm noticing slight lag?

Asked by mleja2 in Hardware Components, Computer Memory (RAM), Personal Computers

So I have the following custom PC:

Asus Striker Extreme
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (Overclocked from 2.13 - 2.75ghz)
4gb of DDR 800 Ram running at 5-5-12 (2gb from Mushkin and 2gb from Patriot)
eVGA Nvidia Geforce 8800gts 320-mb overclocked
2x 150gb Western Digitals set to Raid 0 (Win Vista 64bit)
1x 80gb Western Digital (running my linux partition)

I still notice a slight lag in some programs and some productivity of the PC.
Vista's rating gives 5.9's to all categories except Processor where I get 5.5

I play a decent amount of games as well and do a lot of multi-tasking with itunes open, and firefox, and a whole lot at once.

A few things I hear bother me:

Is it wrong if I'm using 2 diff. brands for memory?  Should buy 2x more Patriot and get rid of the Mushkin?

What is the best low budget upgrade for the PC? Hopefully under 100 or 150$?
Another eVGA 8800gts for SLI
A newer nvidia card maybe 9000?

OR - should I upgrade my CPU to quad core or a 3ghz duo core?

I'm sure a lot of this might be opinion or i might get different answers: but if this helps:

I want it to be quicker - more responsive.... and then I'd like it to be better in games... so games are a second priority.Start Free Trial
