Have tried burning DVDs (Verbatim Lightscribe) with this burner using Nero 6.6. Burn process failed. Then tried burning with CD Burner XP ver. 4 - same problem. Nero suggested upgrading firmware of Burner & upgrading Nero. Didn't do the latter because have burned other (same make) DVDs on laptop successfully, with same version of Nero. Dowloaded Firmware RB02 from LG (RB01 currently installed) - ran utility but firmware update failed - binary string of error results.
Called the local system builder who assembled the kit and they mumbled something about a registry tweak to remove a filter(?) but wanted 30 euros to do it in 24 hours, even though I only bought the kit last July. I volunteered to do the registry hack if they told me which one but they were unwilling to do this over the 'phone. So they're off my Xmas card list.
