I had not uninstalled any recording programs, it is a read only drive. I had installed Realplayer, and Quicktime. The fix worked. Thank you.

Browse All TopicsMy Dvd drive has stopped working. It is a read only drive. Samsung SD-616T. I get error message 19 "Your registry might be corrupted". I am not sure when it happened, I have downloaded Realplayer and Quicktime recently. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device. I can't go back to a previous registry setting because system restore was turned off. It is now on turned on. I have seen repairs that require a registry edit. Have you uninstalled a program recently, if so, look at http://support.microsoft.c om/kb/3140 60, You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an error message after you remove a CD recording program or a DVD recording program in Windows XP: "error code 31"
It has a guided help button under method 1 that downloads an executable to perform the changes, and it also has method 2 instructions to perform the update manually.
