Unless your VCR has SCART input, you will probably need a SCART adapter to output s-video or composite video (yellow RCA) plus the audio. There are adapters available to do this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wi

Browse All TopicsI have a Showtime Showbox DVR, model 3001S. It's the model used in the Middle East. The instructions included don't mention how to record to an external VCR through the included SCART port or any mention of the included USB other than 'for future use'. I would like to save some of the recorded programs off-line on my computer or on DVD to be viewed later. Has anyone got instructions or a hack to do this?

Both of these seem good answers. I need to purchase some hardware (connectors) to test, and that will take a bit of time. I still am interested in the USB connector. I wonder who makes this box for Showtime Arabia and whether the USB connector might be enabled on some other DVR?
Also, is Callandor a reference to the sword that isn't a sword?
Without a manual, it is impossible to tell what the USB port is used for. It may be a control interface for an add-on device, a port for copying software or files, or for recording video - no way to tell.

Based simply on the Flash animation on the Showbox site
The simplest approach would seem to be to take the TV out SCART and feed it to your VCR/DVR input and see if you can see a signal throught the VCR/DVR output.
Next simply hit record on the VCR/DVR and record a few minutes of your Showbox output.
Playback using the VCR/DVR and see if you have both audio and video.
Because the Showbox is based on TiVo technology there is a good chance that the recordings have DRM incorporated as part of the decoding so you may not be able to record correctly from SCART alone.
