The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

How do I set up Picture-in-Picture (PiP) with a Set Top Box?

Asked by blindsite in Home Theater Systems, Digital Video Recorders / TiVo, Televisions

I have digital cable with Suddenlink Communications. I am required to use a  Motorola DCH6416 STB. The TV hooked up to it (via HDMI) is a Samsung LN-T5271F. I want to set up the PiP function. The TV has that capability, and the STB is a dual-tuner. With the cable plugged into the STB, and the STB plugged into the TV, turning on the PIP only gives me snow, and I'm only able to change the TV channels in the PiP, as opposed to the cable channels.

After some (actually alot) of research, it appears that I may have to (1) use a cable splitter before the STB, (2) input one prong into the STB, then to the TV, and (3) input the other prong directly to the TV. However, my understanding is that, using that setup, the PiP would only receive the "standard" channels (i.e., the ones available without the STB), which is pretty useless since I don't even watch any of the first 100 or so channels. So:

Q1:  Is there a better way to set up PiP?

Q2:  Is the whole "dual tuner" thing only useful for maintaining the record buffer on, say, Ch.1 when I switch to Ch.2 (using "swap"), since it apparently does not allow me to set up PiP using two video outs directly from the STB?

Q3:  Have I missed some boat, and if so, where should I go to find it?
