It seems that the thing is dead. I've had it a while so perhaps due to charging and discharging over the years.

Browse All TopicsI have a Creative Zen Vision M, which I've been using in exactly the same way for several years now.
I use it, wait until the battery is down to no more than half way, then charge it by attaching it to my computer, which is always on. It's connected to my computer by a USB cable, which is connected directly to the USB port on the computer (i.e. not through a hub). I've been doing this for years, and it always charges without any problems.
A few days ago, I noticed that the battery was down really low, so didn't use it. A few days later, I go to use it, and then notice again that the battery indicator is low, so I plug it into a computer (not the usual one) to try and charge it. While plugged in, it shows me a blue flashing light (where it normally stays steady when charging), and I hear a quiet ticking noise coming from it, in time with the blue flashing light.
I figure maybe the computer I've plugged it into isn't outputting enough power to charge it, so I disconnect it, and then later connect it to the usual computer, and leave it to charge. Again, it shows the blue flashing light and I hear the ticking. I figure that maybe it just needs to be left to charge for a while, as the battery is probably really low.
I leave it overnight (for about 6 or 7 hours on charge), and in the morning, it's still flashing and ticking. It still won't turn on.
What's wrong with my player? Is it dead? I'm hoping not, as it's expensive to replace :(

Just a comment that my Zen 4GB exhibited similar symptoms recently (although as it uses flash memory there was no ticking).
Using the same cable and USB port as always, it also failed to charge.
Switching to another USB port round the back of the PC, it is now charging (has gone from nothing to half-way green).
I've also seen comments that a wall adapter with USB connector is a possible solution if your USB is no longer kicking out enough juice (for whatever reason).
Hopefully you didn't bin it yet!

After several years the charging and discharging can affect the players life span.
you should try connecting it to another USB port on your computer or on a different computer to rule out that your computer is the problem.
Try to use a different USB cable if you can get one.
Good Luck
