Substituting a power supply

Hi,

I have LG LRM-519 DVR that needs a new power supply. No manufacturer or distributor produces this part (6871RP0801A) anymore.

I was wondering if I can buy a different power supply and use it on my DVR even if the size doesn't fit inside the case.

Is that possible? and how would I find a similar one to substitute?

You would need to be very careful that the power supply was insulated and grounded on the 120v side.  The output of the power supply needs to match the voltage output of the old unit and should provide at least as much current.  The ground of the DVR should be the same ground as the power supply and all wires covered with insulation or electrical tape.

Callandor,

I was thinking of getting a PC power supply, but how would I know the amount of watt and voltage needed. The old power supply board doesn't have any information. I only have its model number (6871RP0801A).

It seems this unit has a common problem - capacitors that go bad. If you replace them, you can get probably get your unit back up and running, cheaper than the cost of a power supply: http://www.fixya.com/support/t1426431-lrm_519_replace_capacitors Capacitors are fairly common items on ebay and very cheap.
