Browse All TopicsJust recently I decided to remove Roxios EASY CD Creator Ver.5.0 from my WinXp p4 machine. It came installed on this DELL Dimension 8200 3.2ghz when I bought it back in 2002. I used both the Roxio uninstall and downloaded the Roxizap.exe tool to make sure everything was removed.
I also have installed Nero Ultra 6.6 and it has served as my primary cd & DVD authoring tool since I installed it and maintained its updates since 2003.
About a year ago I installed Plextor PX-800A DVD writer. It has worked fine until just recently when it refuses to recognize or copy/record any DVD based disks.
I ran the NERO InfoTool and it claims that both my system ASPI32.sys and WNASPI32.dll were corrupt. However, the NERO WNASPI32.DLL was ok.
I spent hours on the net attempting to find a clean version of these files to install so that the DVD recorder could work again, I could not find any which were to be free.
Let me add some info about the corrupt files in question:
ASPI32.SYS version 4.71.2 (16512bytes installed) Adaptec version. Located in
C: windows/system32/drivers
WNASPI32.DLL version 4.71.2 (45065bytes installed) Adaptec version. Located in C: windows/system32
Various postings I read had numerous comments about a file called WOWPOST.exe & WINAPSI.DLL
I checked the NERO VERSION OF WNASPI.DLL and it size is 164112bytes ver.2.1.074. Is much larger than the Adaptec file. I copied it over to the replace the Adaptec version and the NERO INFOTOOL claimed everything was ok??? Go figure??? I replaced it with the original corrupted file and it remained corrupted.
In terms of the equipment, I have the CD units set up in a Master/slave relationship with the Plextor as the master and a HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8400b
I tried reading through the numerous postings on EE, though they seem to be less apt to resolve the issue. In a google search there were a number of sites which assured repair, I downloaded files from FORCEASPI forum, but dont know how to install them. They appear to be the correct versions to replace those that are corrupt on my machine. (http://radified.com/ASPI/
I need some guidance and hand holding through this one this one.
