How do I connect a HD DVR box to my 22" LCD?

Tags: Viewsonic, 22" LCD, vx2235
I have a Viewsonic vx2235 LCD monitor that I just replaced on my desk and now want to use to watch TV on in my office.  I have upgraded my Cable box to a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD DVR and am trying to connect it to the LCD.  I have purchased a male HDMI to female DVI converter and plugged it directly into the back of the DVR box.  I then connected the DVI cable that came with the LCD from there to the DVI input on the LCD.
I have verified that the DVR box is working correctly by connecting it to another display via a S-Video cable.  But no matter what I do, I don't get any display on the LCD.  Is a special cable requied?  Or a special HDMI to DVI converter?  Alternatively, how can I confirm that my DVR's HDMI is compatible with the LCD panel's DVI?

To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.
