Question

Configuring TV Card in MepiaPortal

Asked by: ECS-TECH

I'm currently attempting to configure the open source software Media Portal to display analog TV from a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1100 as a replacement for Windows Media Center. I'm running MCE 2002 with latest service packs and the rollups installed.

In the MP configuration app, I get a choice between 3 WinTV capture devices - two digital and one analog. As I am after a single analog input, I of course chose the analog device. As soon as this is selected I get an error saying "Unable to create graph for this device!" and no channel scans are available. When entering the main program, if I select TV I get the same error. I've tried reregistering some dlls and turning off the MC receiver service but I still can't get around this error.

All I want is to display a standard TV signal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi is this Vista by any chance?
As Hauppauge, WintTV, HVR 1100 has problems runing in Vista media Center it is a Media Center problem and
 Hauppauge are pressuring MS .
Using Xp?
Do you have the guide there?
it is pretty simple to setup
Analogue TV recording is the setting you choose yes.
Are you just connecting the TV to your PC?
If you want live TV then you need an antennai
For Digital Terrestrial reception, a high gain aerial is recommended. The WinTV-HVR-1100 uses a rooftop aerial for DVB-T reception in the same way that most people currently receive their analogue television programmes.

I prefer to install the drivers before inserting the card.
Power off insert the card then let windows find it but choose the drivers you already installed.
Connect the s-video cable from your card  to your s-video out on your TV include the audio cables as well.
Open the PVR it should be showing the TV

Check the device manager that the drivers are listed under Sound video and game controllers. Opne View and check for any Other devices yellow question marks.

System Requirements
Analogue TV recording: PC with 2.8 GHz processor (min. recommended)
Digital TV (DVB-T) reception and recording: PC with 1.5 GHz processor (min. recommended)
Microsoft® Windows® XP, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (with Media Center Decoder installed)
DirectDraw compatible AGP or PCI Express graphics card
 A free PCI slot
Sound card or on board sound
 CD-ROM drive (for Software installation)

Included in the WinTV-HVR-1100 MCE package:

WinTV-HVR-1100 PCI card with multi-standard PAL TV and DVB-T receivers, FM radio receiver, S-Video, Composite and stereo audio inputs
Software MPEG recorder (SoftPVR) for Windows Media Center Edition << this the one that you watch TV on.

Thanks for your post Merete,

The OS is XP Media Center Edition, and the card is already installed fine with the latest drivers (runs perfectly in WinTV). There are no issues with the hardware setup or driver installation, as I have had experience with setting up TV cards and Media Center itself several times.

The problem is specifically when using the card with the program Media Portal (as I do not want to use Media Center itself), and the "Unable to create graph..." error is within this program.

Thanks.

Hi ECS-TECH your experience is probably off the charts from mine, so a stab in the dark, you run a media center from my experience this may very well be the problem. Media center has its own GUI.
Does your  ghraphics card support  it
MediaPortal FYI

Graphics chips which support this and are compatible with MediaPortal:
ATI Radeon series 9600 (or above)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 (or above), GeForce FX 5200 (or above) and nForce 6100 series (or above)
Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (integrated i865G)
Matrox Parhelia
SiS Xabre series
My Nvidia 6600 GT is supported  :)
