I know that the receiver is only HDMI pass thru so a direct connection vis HDMI is not possible. My TV has 3 HDMI In ports and 1 out along with a digital audio output too. I tried connecting to the TV with the HDMI cable and then outputting the sound from the TV to the receiver via digital audio cable. When I play GTA 4, this works fine, but when I watch a blu-ray disc, the picture was fine, but the audio was not working right. I could not hear voices, but only background audio. I eventually had to use the audio cable to connect PS3 to the receiver directly. This setup is okay, but this makes 3 digital inputs to my receiver...1. The HTPC 2. DirectTV (which I actually connect to TV via HDMI and then TV Audio out to receiver via SPDIF cable) 3. PS3 using another Digital Input. Is the problem in my TV's capabilities, PS3 settings, or did I just do something wrong altogether? (I also checked the center speaker volume and that was fine)

depending on the receiver you have seems to be the main area.
Since the receiver must support surround sound.
You're comment here indicates it's not playing back in true surround sound>>I could not hear voices, but only background audio.<<
With blueray I dont really know yet if that could be the problem.
Blueray is still in the birthing stages.
Try playing a normal DVD incase it is the blueray DVD audio compression to eliminate that possibility.
Blueray uses a different compression to standard DVD
