Browse All TopicsI am having difficulty with hdmi distribution to 2 locations in our facilities. I am bringing in two hdmi sources into a Kramer VS-44HDMI matrix switcher and out to a pair of hdmi distribution amplifiers made by StarTech. After that point, I cable up to a pair of tvs over hdmi (one tv per distribution amplifier) and all seems to be well with those. I leave each distribution amplifier and go into a hdmi extender by StarTech and travel 570 feet over cat6 to connect to the other receiver and then to them tvs with HDMI. This is where the problem comes in. It seems every 2-5 seconds, video and audio drops out for a second then comes right back. I am sending 1080i at 60hz and all equipment supports hdcp. Any ideas from anyone?

I can offer a few of ideas and questions:
1. Did you use unshielded twisted pair (UTP) for the Cat 6? The reason I ask is, that is the cable type that StarTech recommends to use for their HDMI extenders.
2. Did you try to bypass the HDMI distribution amplifier and connect the extenders straight to the matrix? Perhaps the HDMI extenders do not need the additional amplifier.
3. This suggestion will take some effort, but it might be worth trying. If bypassing the amplifier does not help, grab a few pieces of pre-built Cat6 oUTP of 25 feet in length. Then grab one of the problem TV sets and both of its extenders. Bring the Cat6 cable, the TV, and the extenders to the HDMI amplifier and connect everything in the same room. This might give you a general idea if it's the cable length giving you the problem. If it still happens, then cable length might not be the problem.
