The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Force DVR software to run as window OR to favour specific display

Hi guys,

I have a client who has a video capture card which is hooked up to several cctv cameras which she uses to monitor her bar. She has a Windows XP SP3 computer hooked up to dual monitors in extended display mode.

In essence, she wants the DVR software on the secondary screen, and her normal desktop on the primary display. The problem is that the DVR software that came with her capture card is a bit borky, and it will only run in fullscreen. Without the ability to run in window mode its impossible to move the application to the secondary display, which is a big pain in the ass in terms of the computers usuability whilst being used for recording. I am wondering whether it is possible to tell the app to favour the secondary display when opening, essentially negating the window requirement (should it be not attainable).

I have tried -window trick to no avail. I have also tried to use some abstract little third party application which is supposed to force it which also failed (sorry, not sure of what this was called just now).

The only other options i can think of it to get another cheap computer and dedicate it to the DVR but i would prefer if i could get a simpler cheaper solution. We are happy to consider using a different application for recording/monitoring the cameras.

Any help?
