The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

S-Video input for Windows Media Center?

Asked by cage93 in Home Theater Wiring & Accessories, Digital Video Recorders / TiVo, Windows Vista, Digital Living Hardware, Digital Living Software

Hi there,

A little background before my question.  I recently bought a new computer from HP, equipped with a TV-Capture Card (Hauupage WinTV 885).  On my old machine, I had an ATI TV-Wonder 650.  On the old machine, I would hook up my cable box to my computer using S-video and audio composite cables, and capture video to my hard drive using ATI's Catalyst Media Center.

When I asked HP about this, they said the onyl way to use the input from the cable box was with an IR remote sensor (which I have), but the box is in another room, and the IR-device will not reach my computer.  So I figure that since I had no problem doing this with the ATI card and software, I should be able to replicate with my current system.

I am able to watch and capture this s-video input using PowerDirector 6, but it's not optimal for viewing.

My questions are:

a) Can I watch and capture s-video input using Windows Media Center in vista?
b) If not, do you know if Catalyst Media center would work with a non-ATI capture card?  I do have an ATI Radeon HD 3650 graphics card?
c) Does anyone know of any other program that will allow me to watch and capture full-screen s-video
input, in Windows Vista 64 bit?

Thank you in advance... let me know if you need any more info.

Kind regards,

Russ
